Our project

Strengthening AI literacy in adult education across Europe

LEAD-AI (Empowering Adult Learners and Educators through Artificial Intelligence) is an Erasmus+ project that aims to strengthen AI literacy and digital competences in adult education. The project responds to the rapid expansion of generative Artificial Intelligence and its growing impact on professional environments, learning systems and lifelong learning pathways.

The principles underlying LEAD-AI are those of innovation, inclusiveness and responsible digital transformation. The project seeks to equip adult learners and educators with practical skills, pedagogical methodologies and ethical guidance to use generative AI tools effectively, critically and responsibly in diverse professional contexts.

Bringing together four European organisations with complementary expertise, LEAD-AI develops a coherent and practice-oriented approach to AI capacity building in adult education. Through collaborative design and knowledge exchange, the project translates research and field experience into accessible training pathways that respond to real workplace needs.

OBJECTIVES

LEAD AI advances a hands-on and ethically grounded approach to integrating artificial intelligence into education and training. Through transnational cooperation and open knowledge exchange, the project aims to create practical and sustainable capacity-building solutions. It focuses on:

  1. Strengthening AI literacy and digital competences among adult learners and educators, enabling confident and responsible use of generative AI tools in professional contexts.
  2. Developing a structured pedagogical and methodological framework tailored to adult education.
  3. Design and provide modular training content covering generative AI fundamentals, practical workplace applications, and critical evaluation of AI-generated outputs.
  4. Promote ethical, trustworthy and human-centred AI use, addressing issues such as bias, misinformation, transparency and responsible decision-making.
  5. Empower educators through a Train-the-Trainer approach, equipping them with the tools and methodologies needed to integrate AI effectively into adult learning environments.
  6. Establish an open-access AI-enhanced digital learning platform to support sustainable skills development and long-term uptake of project results across Europe.

IMPACTS

  1. Improved AI literacy and digital readiness in adult education, enabling learners and educators to navigate and apply generative AI tools with confidence and critical awareness.
  2. Strengthened employability and professional adaptability, supporting upskilling and reskilling pathways aligned with evolving labour market needs in the digital era.
  3. Enhanced capacity of educators and training providers to integrate AI into teaching practices through innovative pedagogical approaches and practical methodologies.
  4. Promotion of ethical, responsible and human-centred AI use, addressing bias, misinformation and trustworthy decision-making in professional contexts.
  5. Increased accessibility and inclusiveness in digital learning, through open-access resources and flexible learning pathways adapted to diverse adult learner profiles.
  6. Sustainable integration of AI in lifelong learning systems, contributing to Europe’s digital transformation and strengthening cooperation across educational sectors.
